Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassadors of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Latvia and Poland held a video conference with representatives of the European People’s Party faction in the European Parliament, Dunyo reports.
The European People’s Party is the largest and most influential pan-European political force, consisting of a number of heads of state and government of Europe and represented in all EU institutions. It is the largest fraction in the European Parliament, where it has 187 of 705 seats.
Participants of the event discussed the current state and prospects of Uzbek-European relations. The parties expressed satisfaction with the comprehensive and dynamic development of bilateral cooperation.
Particular attention is paid to the ongoing processes of developing a draft Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the European Union, obtaining Uzbekistan the status of a beneficiary country of the General System of Preferences "GSP +" and the republic’s entry into the World Trade Organization.
The parliamentarians praised the progress achieved in this direction and expressed their readiness to support the Uzbek side on these issues. The need for the speedy completion of these processes is noted, which serves the interests of both parties.
Deputies also expressed interest in organizing a visit of the delegation of the European People’s Party to Uzbekistan to hold meetings with Uzbek partners.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed on a number of joint activities in Brussels, including a long-term contact plan.
