Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A meeting was held at the Ministry of Health with the US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Uzbekistan Daniel Rosenblum, representatives of the USAID mission and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
At the beginning of the conversation, the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between our countries in the field of medicine was noted, as well as the gratitude of the Uzbek side for the practical assistance of the United States during the coronavirus pandemic.
In particular, the provision of more than 5 million doses of Moderna and Pfizer vaccines under the COVAX program to combat COVID-19 has been essential to public health.
US officials noted that another 5 million doses of such vaccines are planned to be delivered by September of this year.
In addition, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) provided humanitarian assistance, in particular, US$2 million worth of protective equipment against coronavirus and US $3.7 million worth of medical equipment, which deserves special attention.
At the same time, in recent years, a number of projects have been implemented with USAID grants that help develop the healthcare sector in accordance with modern requirements.
In turn, partnerships with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the field of combating coronavirus and other infections, vaccination, sanitary epidemiological and other areas of medicine are being strengthened.
For example, some time ago, an international advanced training course "Basic level of the curriculum in practical epidemiology" was organized and students of the first group graduated. The start of training of the second group is scheduled for April this year.
At the same time, as part of the COVID-19 vaccination program, with the support of CDC specialists, 800 general practitioners, epidemiologists and pediatricians improved their qualifications.
The meeting discussed the prospects for cooperation in the areas of developing medical education, advanced training of specialists, prevention of infectious diseases, in particular, the supply of vaccines against influenza.
An exchange of views also took place on the organization of mobile hospitals to ensure the prompt and high-quality operation of the health care system of our country in emergency situations, the formation of a mobile system of emergency medical care, and the development of the pharmaceutical industry.
