Uzbekistan urges Russia to address eights of Uzbek migrants
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 2 May 2025, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bahromjon Usmanov held a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Uzbekistan, Oleg Malginov.
During the talks, the sides held a thorough exchange of views on key areas of Uzbek-Russian cooperation. They discussed current issues on the bilateral agenda and agreed on the schedule of upcoming events at the high and highest levels in both bilateral and multilateral formats.
The high level of interaction in the consular and legal spheres was noted, including the holding of annual consular consultations. Close cooperation on migration issues continues, with regular meetings of the bilateral working group on organizing the recruitment of Uzbek citizens for employment in Russia.
Special attention was given to the protection of the rights and interests of citizens of both countries. The importance of regular inter-ministerial consultations was emphasized to improve the effectiveness of cooperation in delivering consular services, providing pre-departure language and vocational training for labor migrants, transferring part of the permit issuance process to Uzbekistan, and ensuring compliance with the laws of host countries.
The Uzbek side expressed concern over the growing number of reports about violations of rights and incidents of mistreatment involving Uzbek labor migrants on the territory of the Russian Federation. It was emphasized that such actions are unacceptable and contradict the legal norms safeguarding citizens' rights in the host country.
In this regard, Uzbekistan requested that its concerns be conveyed to the relevant Russian authorities and that measures be taken to prevent such incidents.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties agreed to continue close cooperation to ensure the rights and freedoms of citizens of Uzbekistan and Russia on a reciprocal basis.
