Uzbekistan to upgrade and repair over 2,380 elevators
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to upgrade and repair 2,383 outdated and unfit-for-use elevators, according to Saidnosir Usmonov, head of the information service at the Ministry of Construction and Housing and Communal Services.
A government resolution has been adopted to improve the system for repairing and replacing elevators in multi-apartment buildings. Under this resolution, modernization of elevator equipment is planned, aiming to enhance residents’ safety and prevent potential incidents caused by elevator malfunctions.
Before elevators are put into operation, manufacturers and importers will be required to organize warranty service within the country. Additionally, new technical requirements for elevators have been established, including the mandatory installation of an emergency rescue system, enhanced communication, video surveillance, and an alert system for emergencies.
The modernization program is set for the period from 2025 to 2028. In new buildings, elevators will only be commissioned after being entered into an electronic registry created under the interagency platform “Safe Elevator.” The Committee for Industrial, Radiation, and Nuclear Safety will oversee this process.
Starting May 1 of this year, the “Safe Elevator” platform will be fully operational. It will provide real-time dispatch control, track the technical condition of elevators, and record emergency incidents. The system will also allow users to access information about the installation date, the organization responsible for maintenance, and the history of inspections.
According to a resolution by the Cabinet of Ministers, a full inventory of 11,428 elevators in 4,427 apartment buildings has been conducted across the country. The inspection revealed that 2,001 elevators require complete replacement, while 382 need repairs. A total of 854.6 billion soums will be allocated from local budgets to implement these measures.
Overall, these initiatives aim to fundamentally improve the technical condition of residential elevators, prevent accidents, ensure safe conditions for citizens, and introduce a modern monitoring and dispatching system.
