Uzbekistan to tighten control over charitable donations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis reviewed in the first reading a draft law aimed at improving the regulation of charitable activities.
It was noted that in recent years, Uzbekistan has been actively working to provide comprehensive support to low-income groups. Alongside government agencies, citizens also play a significant role in organizing charitable initiatives and donations.
However, the current legislation lacks clear mechanisms for regulating the collection of charitable funds, ensuring transparency in the activities of organizations in this field, and overseeing the use of donations. Additionally, there is no established liability for violations of charity regulations.
This has led to a decline in public trust toward non-governmental nonprofit organizations legally engaged in charity work and has created risks of misuse.
The proposed draft law introduces effective mechanisms for state support of charitable organizations, enhances transparency in their activities, and establishes clear legal regulations for the collection and use of donations.
The document outlines additional measures for state support of charities, the procedures for collecting and accounting for donations, rules for organizing and using donation boxes, and mechanisms for disclosing information on collected funds.
The adoption of this law will help prevent violations in the collection of charitable donations, increase transparency in the operations of charitable organizations, and strengthen public trust in them.
Following extensive discussions, lawmakers supported the draft law.
