Uzbekistan to receive 100,000 doses of Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan plans to receive 100,000 doses of the Comirnaty coronavirus vaccine produced by Pfizer (USA) and BioNTech (Germany). This was announced to the press service of the Ministry of Health by Deputy Minister of Health - Head of the Service of Sanitary and Epidemiological Welfare and Public Health Bakhodir Yusupaliev.

He noted that Uzbekistan prepared an order for 20% of the country’s population and sent an application to the COVAX fund (coronavirus vaccination mechanism).

Bakhodir Yusupaliev said that now, in partnership with GAVI (Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunization), work is underway to deliver 100,000 doses of the Comirnaty vaccine, developed by the American company Pfizer and Germany’s BioNTech, to Uzbekistan.

According to him, Uzbekistan has refrigerators necessary for storing this vaccine, maintaining temperatures down to -70 degrees Celsius.

The GAVI Alliance provided Uzbekistan with 17 large refrigerated trucks and 206 cargo minivans to deliver the vaccine to the regions. Work is underway to train medical professionals in accordance with the requirements of safe immunization.

According to the world’s media, about 60 people who received the Pfizer vaccine died. In the Netherlands, about a hundred people have reported side effects after receiving a coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer and BioNTech.
