Uzbekistan to plant 200 million trees and shrubs in 2025
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2025, Uzbekistan plans to plant 200 million trees and shrubs as part of the "Yashil Makon" and "My Garden" initiatives. The corresponding decree has been signed by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The document outlines the use of energy-efficient solar-powered lighting in "green gardens" and "public parks."
Special attention will be given to greening the dried-up Aral Sea bed, where 100,000 hectares of "green spaces" are set to be created.
As a result, the total forested area in the Aral Sea region will expand to 2.1 million hectares, while the nationwide forest coverage will reach 4.1 million hectares. Additionally, protected natural areas will cover 14.5% of Uzbekistan’s territory.
Drought- and salt-resistant tree plantations will be established in Karakalpakstan, as well as in Bukhara, Jizzakh, and Kashkadarya regions.
Key priorities include the development of ecotourism, tree nurseries, the cultivation of medicinal plants, and measures to boost local incomes.
