Uzbekistan to Participate in Launch of Chinese Satellite Samarqand-2028
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan will participate in the development and launch of a Chinese hyperspectral Earth observation satellite, named “Samarqand-2028.”
The Uzbek agency “Uzbekkosmos” and the company STAR.VISION have signed a memorandum of cooperation. The satellite’s name is linked to the preparation for and hosting of the 2028 International Astronautical Congress in Samarkand — the world’s largest space forum, which will be held in Central Asia for the first time.
Under the memorandum, specialists from Uzbekkosmos are developing an artificial intelligence module for the satellite.
Hyperspectral imaging will enable rapid assessment of air quality, monitoring of agricultural crops, tracking forest dynamics, and providing high-precision analytical information for various sectors of the economy.
The project opens new opportunities for the development of space technologies in Uzbekistan and strengthens cooperation with leading global space partners.
