Uzbekistan to observe Eid al Adha on 24 September

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First day of Eid al-Adha (Festival of Sacrifice) was announced as day-off in Uzbekistan and will be marked widely as holiday in the country. The first day of Eid al-Adha falls to 24 September 2015.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On celebrating Kurban-hait (Eid al-Adha)” on 18 September 2015.

The resolution said taking into consideration the proposal of the Muslims’ Board of Uzbekistan, the first day of Eid al-Adha, 24 September 2015, is announced as day-off and will be marked as a holiday in Uzbekistan.

Eid al-Adha is a religious festival celebrated by Muslims worldwide as a commemoration of Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son Ismael for Allah. It is one of two Eid festivals that Muslims celebrate. Like Eid ul-Fitr, Eid ul-Adha begins with a short prayer followed by a sermon. It is also called the bigger Eid because it lasts a day longer than Eid ul-Fitr.
