Uzbekistan to Launch Green Hydrogen Production in June 2025

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan will begin producing green hydrogen in June 2025, Abid Malik, President of ACWA Power for Central Asia, announced at the Tashkent International Investment Forum.

According to Malik, ACWA Power is implementing two green hydrogen projects — one in Saudi Arabia and the other in Uzbekistan. The Uzbek project is set to start operations this June, with an annual production capacity of 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen.

“We believe this will elevate Uzbekistan’s position on the global green hydrogen map,” he said.

The initiative follows the official launch in November 2023, when President Shavkat Mirziyoyev inaugurated the construction of a pilot green hydrogen facility in Tashkent Region, in cooperation with ACWA Power. The project is being implemented in two phases and has a total investment value of US$88 million. Phase one aims to produce 3,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually starting in 2025.

According to JSC “Uzkimyosanoat,” phase two will include the establishment of a facility in Chirchik to produce up to 500,000 tonnes of ammonia per year using green hydrogen, along with the construction of a wind power plant with an installed capacity of up to 2.4 gigawatts.
