Uzbekistan to host first rectors’ forum with Georgia

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 26 February 2025, during the visit of an Uzbek delegation led by First Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Innovation of Uzbekistan Shokhrukh Daliyev, negotiations were held with First Deputy Minister of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia Giorgi Modebadze.

The meeting also included Deputy Ministers of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia Baya Kvitsiani and Tamar Gvamichava.

The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in higher education, science, and innovation, as well as implementing new initiatives based on previously established agreements at the highest level. Both sides explored the development of joint educational programs, support for research activities, and the expansion of academic mobility for faculty and students.

The parties also reviewed ongoing collaborative projects between universities of both countries. Notably, three Georgian students are currently studying in Uzbekistan. Additionally, cooperation between Tashkent State Agrarian University and the Georgian Research Institute of Horticulture, Viticulture, and Winemaking was highlighted. This partnership includes plans to establish a collection vineyard and organize internships for master’s students in viticulture and winemaking.

As a key outcome of the talks, the sides agreed to organize the first Uzbekistan-Georgia Rector’s Forum.

The forum is expected to serve as a significant platform for strengthening academic ties, exchanging expertise, and identifying new areas for collaboration between universities of the two countries.

Additionally, an agreement was reached to facilitate the enrollment of Georgian applicants in Uzbek universities, further enhancing the global recognition of Uzbekistan’s higher education system and promoting the export of educational services.
