Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- This morning, the work program of President of the Republic of Tatarstan Rustam Minnikhanov in Tashkent began with a short meeting with representatives of the Tatar community in Uzbekistan.
Chairman of the Board of the Tatar Public Cultural and Educational Center of Tashkent Rishat Nabiullin and Chairman of the Council of Elders of Tatars and Bashkirs of Uzbekistan Rim Giniyatullin spoke briefly about the life of the Tatar community.
Rishat Nabiullin said that on 8 April, the 30th anniversary of the Tatar Public Cultural and Educational Center would be celebrated in Tashkent, and invited Rustam Minnikhanov to the celebrations. The President of the Republic of Tatarstan promised to consider the issue and send a representative delegation of cultural figures to strengthen mutual ties. In turn, Rustam Minnikhanov invited active public figures of the Tatar community to celebrate the 1100th anniversary of the adoption of Islam by the Volga Bulgaria in May and to the 8th congress of the World Congress of Tatars, which is scheduled for early August this year. The parties also agreed to hold the final of the Tatar Kyzy contest in Uzbekistan in the autumn, which was postponed last year due to the difficult epidemiological situation.
Today more than 300 thousand Tatars live in Uzbekistan. The diaspora of Tatars in Uzbekistan is one of the largest outside of Russia. Most Tatars live in Tashkent and Samarkand regions.
