Uzbekistan to hold elections to self-governing bodies in May-Jun
The Council of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan adopted resolution “On preparing and holding of elections of the chairpersons (aksakals) of the self-governing bodies and their advisors” on 5 march 2016.
The upper house of parliament created special commission on organizing and holding upcoming elections.
According to the Senate, some 9,764 chairpersons (aksakals) of the self-governing bodies and over 99,000 of their advisors will be elected this year.
Citizens’ gatherings in Uzbekistan are self-governing bodies, which functions in villages, mahallas of cities and villages. The citizens’ gatherings represent interest of population and adopt decision on their behalf in their territories.
