Uzbekistan to Expand Air Transportation Network and Modernize Aviation Infrastructure
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2026, Uzbekistan plans a significant expansion of its air transportation network along with modernization of aviation infrastructure.
These measures are outlined in the draft Presidential Decree on the State Program for implementing reforms in priority areas during the “Year of Mahalla Development and Improvement of Public Welfare” and within the framework of the “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy.
The expansion of air routes will include issuing permits for flights on new routes proposed by both domestic and foreign airline operators. Routes with low passenger traffic and limited economic efficiency will be redirected to more in-demand domestic and international destinations.
Additionally, intergovernmental agreements with foreign aviation authorities will be reviewed to ensure the operation of regular international flights. These matters will be discussed during events of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and in meetings of government aviation agencies.
Particular attention is being paid to the development of aviation infrastructure. In 2026, construction of a new international airport in Tashkent will commence under a public-private partnership model, with subsequent transfer of the facility to management.
Furthermore, the Zarafshan airfield is scheduled for reconstruction, including restoration of aerotechnical equipment and fuel supply complexes. The financing for these projects will be provided by the Navoi Mining & Metallurgy Combinat and the Zarafshan city administration.
