Uzbekistan to establish a network of "Shaded Walking Streets"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan will create a network of "Shaded Walking Streets" as part of efforts to green urban areas and improve the environmental landscape.

This initiative is outlined in the Presidential Decree on the State Program for the Implementation of the "Uzbekistan–2030" Strategy in the Year of Environmental Protection and the Green Economy.

As part of the project, major measures will be taken in 2025 to enhance environmental conditions in mahallas, increase green spaces along streets, and create a more comfortable natural environment. Trees and plants will be planted along pedestrian and bicycle lanes, forming the foundation of the "Shaded Walking Streets" network.

Additionally, 80 infrastructure facilities will be built in coastal areas and along rivers, with health trails totaling over 110 km established for public recreation.

As part of the "Yashil Makon" (Green Space) National Project and the "My Garden" Initiative, 200 million saplings will be planted across the country. Solar-powered lighting systems will be introduced in green gardens and public parks.

Significant attention will also be given to environmental restoration in the Aral Sea region. 100,000 hectares of green spaces will be created on the former seabed, bringing the total afforested area in the region to 2.1 million hectares.
