Uzbekistan to conduct military call-up once a year

Uzbekistan will have military call-up once a year starting from 2009, the President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a corresponding decree on 20 November.
Currently, Uzbekistan has system in line with which citizens called to military service twice a year - in spring and autumn.
The decree said that the new order is established to improve military service and quality of recruitment to Armed Forces.
The document said the military call-up will be held in February-March and transferring to the reserve, those who have completed their terms of military service, will be carried out in March-April. Order of drafting to the mobilization call-up reserve remained unchanged.
Citizens, who were drafted to armed forces in autumn 2008, will be transferred to reserve in March-April 2008, as an exception, the decree said.
