Uzbekistan to build new railway from Andijan to Pap

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan is planning to construct new railroad from Andijan (Andijan region) to Pap (Namangan region) by 2016, President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov said at the session of the Andijan Regional Kengash (Council) of People’s Deputies on 26 April 2013.

Islam Karimov said that Ferghana Valley has poor railway link with other regions of Uzbekistan.

He said that there are 10 million people in Ferghana Valley. “We do not have right not to pay attention to inexistence of railroads with this region,” he said.

Islam Karimov underlined that the Government of Uzbekistan was considering to construct electrified railroad on Angren-Pap direction with the length of 125 km.

Uzbek President said that implementation of the project will create single national railway network, which will cover all territory and regions of Uzbekistan. He said this is the strategic project.

President Islam Karimov said that the project will be implemented in 2014-2015 and the construction works will be completed in 2016. He said that people will have chance to travel to Ferghana Valley, including Andijan, on train.

According to Uzbekistan Temir Yollari, preliminary cost of the project makes up US$1.9 billion and was included to investment plan of the company for next five years.

The project will be financed due to resources of the state budget, own resources of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari and loans of international financial institutions. The feasibility study of the project will be completed by the end of 2013.

The railway from Angren to Pap with the length of 129 km will go through Kamchik pass and link Andijan, Namangan and Ferghana regions with other part of Uzbekistan. It is planned to construct two tunnels.
