Uzbekistan Tightens Penalties for Prescription Drug Violations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has strengthened penalties for violations of prescription drug dispensing rules. Amendments to several legal acts have updated both the Administrative Code and the Criminal Code of the country.

Under the new regulations, breaches in the retail sale of medicines containing potent substances now carry fines ranging from 100 to 200 sizes of basic estimated value (BEV), up from the previous 50 to 100 MCU.

Criminal liability has also been tightened. Repeat offenses or violations involving large quantities may result in fines of 200 to 300 sizes of BEV, corrective labor for up to three years, restriction of freedom for two to five years, or imprisonment for up to five years. Previously, the minimum fine was 100 sizes of BEV.

These measures aim to enhance control over the distribution of prescription medications and increase accountability for both pharmacies and individuals who violate dispensing rules.
