Uzbekistan Tightens Fire Safety Standards for Buildings

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has updated its urban planning and fire safety regulations for buildings and structures, the Ministry of Justice said.

The new provisions aim to limit the use of highly flammable construction materials, particularly in façades and evacuation areas. Materials are now classified into four categories based on their combustibility, with restrictions applied according to building height. Buildings up to 28 meters tall may use only low-combustibility materials, while structures taller than 28 meters are prohibited from using flammable materials on the façades of educational and medical facilities.

The restrictions also cover wall and ceiling finishes in evacuation areas such as stairwells, corridors, lobbies, exits, as well as basements and semi-basements.

These amendments are designed to improve public safety and reduce the risk of fire incidents in residential and public buildings.
