Uzbekistan Temporarily Bans Imports of Mandarins and Pineapples from China Due to Quarantine Pests

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has imposed a temporary ban on the import of mandarins and pineapples from the People’s Republic of China.

The decision was taken following the repeated detection of quarantine organisms in shipments of fruit supplied from China.

Samples of imported mandarins and pineapples were examined at the Central Phytosanitary Laboratory.

Laboratory analysis revealed the presence of dangerous quarantine pests in the products, including the citrus whitefly (Dialeurodes citri Ashmead), the oriental citrus scale insect (Unaspis yanonensis Kuwana), and the pineapple mealybug (Dysmicoccus brevipes Cockerell). Harmful organisms were identified in approximately 20 consignments.

The findings were officially reported to the National Plant Quarantine and Protection Organization of China, and relevant materials and documentation were forwarded.

For the duration of the ban, the issuance of quarantine import permits for mandarins and pineapples from China has been suspended.

The restrictive measures will remain in effect until the causes for their introduction are fully eliminated and are aimed at preventing the entry and spread of dangerous quarantine organisms within the territory of Uzbekistan.
