Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 7 October 2019, a meeting was held between the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva and the Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan Shukurjon Zukhurov.

The parties emphasized that due to the close and trusting contacts that have developed and direct and regular dialogue between the heads of state in the last three years, there has been a significant positive dynamics in the development of bilateral ties. Relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have grown to the level of strategic partnership. This helps to bring bilateral relations in all areas to a qualitatively new stage, based on the interests of fraternal peoples.

During the meeting, it was noted that Tajikistan is one of the closest neighbors of Uzbekistan. Both countries share a common history, the similarity of spiritual values. Since ancient times, the peoples of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan have lived and developed side by side, and therefore the traditions of good neighborliness and mutual respect today serve as a solid basis for cooperation in various fields.

Inter-parliamentary relations have intensified. It was noted that the interaction between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan is one of the important mechanisms in deepening friendship and good neighborly relations, increasing the effectiveness of practical ties, as well as effectively monitoring the implementation of bilateral agreements.

“I am sure that the inter-parliamentary relations of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will rise to a qualitatively new level both in the format of bilateral cooperation and within the framework of inter-parliamentary structures,” said Shukurdzhon Zukhurov.

Strengthening contacts and encouraging dialogue between the parliaments of the two countries also contributes to the coordination of actions, cooperation on the most important issues, as well as the exchange of experience in lawmaking. There is an inter-parliamentary group of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for cooperation with the Majlisi Oli of the Republic of Tajikistan. In this regard, Tanzila Narbaeva wished a successful meeting of the inter-parliamentary friendship group between the parliaments of the two countries in Tashkent.
