Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan supports the re-election for a second term of UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay.

Audrey Azoulay announced her intention to continue her activities at the head of the organization during the 210th session of the UNESCO Executive Board.

According to the State Committee for Tourism Development, which referred to the Chairman of the National Commission for UNESCO, Deputy Prime Minister Aziz Abdukhakimov, the Uzbek side welcomes the intention of UNESCO Director-General to run for a second term and will fully support her re-election in the elections during the 41st session of the General Conference in November 2021. 

The Director-General leads the organization effectively and professionally, as well as been able to unite the international community to foster dialogue, understanding and peace in difficult times, including amid pandemic.

It was noted that the organization is on the right path, and Uzbekistan stands for further continuation of the current course of its development.

In addition, it was emphasized that Uzbekistan supports UNESCO’s initiatives in protecting freedom of speech, expanding access to information and strengthening the role of independent media in society.
