Uzbekistan suggests introducing compulsory treatment of venereal diseases

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Deputies of the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan propose to introduce compulsory treatment of venereal diseases in Uzbekistan.

This issue was discussed by the deputies of the Committee on Health of the Legislative Chamber of the Parliament with the participation of representatives of relevant ministries and departments, heads of health institutions, as well as experts of the committee.

It should be noted that the state of medical examination and treatment of people suffering from sexually transmitted diseases was studied in conjunction with specialists from the Ministries of Internal Affairs and Health.

- Based on the results of the study, it was established that due to the cancellation on August 31, 2016 of the joint Order of the Ministers of Health and the Interior of May 15, 1997 "On the Prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Persons at Risk," compulsory medical inspections to identify sexually transmitted diseases and there is no statistical recording of persons suffering from these diseases, Muharram Dadakhodjaeva, deputy of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, said.

During the discussion, the attention was also drawn to the experience of foreign countries in this field. In particular, it was stated that the legislation of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Ukraine envisage compulsory medical examination and treatment of people suffering from sexually transmitted diseases on the basis of a court decision.

Given the high social risk of these diseases, the participants expressed their opinion on the need to improve the regulatory and legal acts that regulate this area, proposed the development and adoption of the law "On the Prevention and Treatment of Sexually Transmitted Diseases".

As it was mentioned, the adoption of this law will create an opportunity for compulsory treatment of venereal diseases dangerous for the health of the population and will serve to prevent its spread.

Following the results of the event, based on the opinions expressed, the committee developed appropriate recommendations and proposals.
