Uzbekistan strengthens responsibility for car stealing

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan strengthened responsibility for stealing of vehicles.

President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a law “On introduction of changes and amendments to some legislative acts of Uzbekistan” on 26 December 2016.

Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan passed the law on 6 October and Senate approved the document on 12 October. The law came into force from 27 December.

The document introduced amendments to article 267 of the Criminal Code. According to the article, stealing of the vehicle will punished with the jail sentence from 5 to 10 years. Earlier, car stealing was punished with personal restraint or imprisonment from 3 to 5 years.

The same crime, committed again or by a dangerous recidivist, on preliminary arrangement by group of persons, with violence or threat of violence or the purpose of stealing the vehicle by theft or robbery shall be punished with imprisonment from 10 to 15 years.

The same action committed by especially dangerous recidivist, an organized group or for the purpose of the theft of the vehicle via robbery is punished with the imprisonment from 15 to 20 years.
