Uzbekistan Streamlines Customs Declarations for International Travelers

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan has overhauled its customs procedures to simplify the declaration of goods for private citizens, according to a Ministry of Justice announcement released today. The regulatory changes, formalized under Order No. 2606-10 and registered on 28 February, represent a significant shift toward digital integration within the nation’s border management system.

The amendments to the Instructions on the Completion and Processing of Passenger Customs Declarations now authorize the automatic generation of electronic forms via the Customs Service’s mobile application. This digital transition is designed to significantly reduce wait times and expedite clearance at border checkpoints. Additionally, customs officers have been granted the authority to correct minor technical errors and clerical omissions in passenger filings to prevent unnecessary delays for travelers.

While the new measures emphasize convenience, they also introduce tighter reporting requirements for specific categories of goods. For items belonging to minors under the age of 16, the passenger declaration must now explicitly include the owner’s passport or national ID card number.

Furthermore, the State Customs Committee has clarified regulations regarding telecommunications hardware. All imported mobile devices must now be declared regardless of whether they fall below duty-free value thresholds. The only exemption applies to handsets imported specifically for retail sale that have already been pre-registered within the national IMEI database.

Officials state that these reforms strike a balance between modernizing the traveler experience and maintaining rigorous oversight of imported electronics and high-value goods. The new protocols go into effect immediately across all international airports and land border crossings.
