Uzbekistan Showcases Experience at UN Forum on Business and Human Rights

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation from Uzbekistan participated in the 14th annual Forum on Business and Human Rights, held from 24–26 November 2025 in Geneva under the auspices of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.

The event brought together over 1,200 participants, including representatives from international organizations, government bodies, national human rights institutions, academia, the business community, and NGOs.

Led by Akmal Saidov, Director of the National Human Rights Center of Uzbekistan, the delegation took part in a special panel session on “Preserving Achievements in Business and Human Rights in Central and Eastern Europe and Central Asia Amid Political Crises.”

The session focused on current human rights challenges amid increasing geopolitical instability and explored the transformation of corporate accountability mechanisms and sustainable human rights practices in the private sector.

International experts participating in the discussion included Laima Jakulevichene from the UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights, UNDP expert Ekaterina Uvarova, Sreten Toshkovich from the Belgrade Human Rights Center, and Maria Gavouneli, President of the National Human Rights Commission of Greece.

In his remarks, Akmal Saidov highlighted Uzbekistan’s experience in integrating human rights standards into the business environment, emphasizing achievements under the National Human Rights Strategy. He focused on fostering a culture of respect for human rights in business, strengthening constructive dialogue between state bodies and the private sector, and improving entrepreneurs’ legal literacy.

Participants underscored the importance of maintaining progress and further strengthening international cooperation and the exchange of best practices in the face of growing global challenges.
