Uzbekistan Sends Diplomatic Note to Russian Foreign Ministry Over Migrant Raids

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 10 June, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan held another round of consultations with the Russian side as part of its regular monthly meetings on migration issues.

During the talks, Uzbekistan expressed concern over reports of unwarranted inspections, disrespectful behavior, and harsh treatment of Uzbek citizens on the territory of the Russian Federation.

It was emphasized that such incidents are completely at odds with the spirit of friendly relations between the two countries, and that concrete measures must be taken to prevent their recurrence.

The Republic of Uzbekistan considers the protection of the rights and lawful interests of its citizens living or temporarily residing abroad a top priority.

The Embassy of Uzbekistan in Moscow is also engaged in diplomatic dialogue with the Russian side on this issue through appropriate channels.

Uzbekistan has called for full compliance with international legal standards and human rights obligations with regard to all individuals, without exception.

In this context, the Uzbek side has issued a strong appeal to the relevant authorities of the Russian Federation, urging them to treat Uzbek citizens with respect and to refrain from actions that undermine their honor and dignity.

Following the incidents in Moscow, the Embassy of Uzbekistan sent an official note to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, demanding a formal explanation of the situation.

The note stressed that there had been clear violations of human rights, which are entirely unacceptable, and called for a legal assessment of the actions of law enforcement personnel.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan is keeping the matter under close watch and will take further steps if necessary.
