Uzbekistan seizes 2.3 tonnes of drugs in 2014

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan seized 2 tonnes and 298 kg of drugs in 2014, the press release “On narcotic situation in Uzbekistan in 2014. Main directions of anti-narcotic policy and their realization” said.

The release said that 6,698 cases related to illegal drug turnover were recorded in Uzbekistan in 2014 (7,680 cases in 2013). The release noted that 607 cases (623 in 2013) are related to drug smuggling, 1,320 cases (1,491) – illegal growing of narcotic plants and 1,709 (1,794) – other drug related crimes.

Uzbekistan detained 2 tonnes and 298 kg of drugs in 2014 (2 tonnes and 326 kg in 2013), of which 106.5 kg were heroin (121.6 kg), 881.9 kg of opium (851.3 kg), 802.9 kg of marijuana (873.5 kg), 100 kg of cannabis (143.3 kg) and 406.3 kg of kuknar (336.3 kg).

The drug situation in 2014 was positive. The average republican figure of drug addiction decreased from 4 in 2013 to 3.8 in 2014.

Number of registered drug addicts fell by 1,352 to 14,692 people. Number of people, who inject drugs, decreased to 5,110 people from 6,809 people, which makes up 34.8% (42.4%) of total number of registered drug addicts in Uzbekistan.
