Uzbekistan Requires Personal Phone Numbers for Banking Apps
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan has approved new requirements to strengthen information security, cybersecurity, and fraud prevention in remote financial services for individuals.
According to the new regulations, starting from 22 April 2026, using bank and payment system mobile applications will require a phone number registered in the user’s name and linked to their PINFL (Individual Identification Number).
If the phone number does not match the user’s PINFL, registration in the application or linking a bank card will not be possible. Users will receive notifications via SMS to confirm compliance.
Consequently, if a mobile number associated with a banking app or card is registered under another person’s name, access through that number will be restricted after April 22. The Central Bank recommends users update their phone numbers or re-link their cards and apps to numbers registered in their own name.
The measure is aimed at improving cybersecurity and protecting clients from fraudulent activities during remote financial operations.
