Uzbekistan receives the first batch of Sputnik V vaccine

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today the first batch of Sputnik V vaccine was delivered to Uzbekistan. The delivery was carried out with the assistance of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF).

Sputnik V, developed by the Russian Scientific Center named after N.F. Gamaleya, was certified and approved for mass use in Uzbekistan in mid-February. The certification process began only after receiving the necessary materials from the developers, in particular, the results of the third stage of clinical trials of the vaccine.

Half of the cost of the entire purchased volume of Sputnik V was financed by the entrepreneur Alisher Usmanov.

Uzbekistan planned in advance in April-June to vaccinate about 4 million citizens against COVID-19. By the end of 2021, this number may grow to 7 million, or about 20 percent of the country's inhabitants.

Currently, measures are being implemented to deliver additional doses of the Uzbek-Chinese vaccine and the AstraZeneca vaccine to the country.
