Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — At the initiative and with the assistance of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Egypt, the country has received its first shipment of medications for the treatment of hepatitis C in 2025, Dunyo news agency reported.

This humanitarian project is part of a large-scale initiative by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan aimed at the complete eradication of hepatitis C in the country.

As a result of negotiations between the Uzbek diplomatic mission and Egypt’s Ministry of Health, an agreement was reached on the gratuitous transfer of 7,440 tablets of the drug “Sofosbuvir-400mg,” packaged in 31 boxes, to Uzbekistan. The total value of the delivered medications amounted to 114,829 US dollars. The shipment was carried out on May 31 by Uzbekistan Airways on the Sharm El-Sheikh–Tashkent route.

Under the national program for the elimination of hepatitis C by 2030, the received medicines will be provided free of charge to patients undergoing treatment at the Republican Research Institute of Virology under Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Health.

According to the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Cairo, during 2023–2024, as part of humanitarian cooperation, the Egyptian government delivered 27 shipments of “Daclatasvir” and “Sofosbuvir” drugs to Uzbekistan with a total weight of 12.4 tons. The total value of the medications delivered amounted to 1.4 million US dollars.
