Uzbekistan raises import duties’ rates for cigarettes from 1 May

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan increased rates of import duties and excise tax for import of tobacco products from 1 May 2013.

President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution "On additional measures on increasing production and expansion of assortment of consumer goods" on 30 April 2013.

The document was adopted for saturation of internal market with locally-made competitive consumer goods.

The document set import duty rates for separate list of consumer goods, imported into Uzbekistan, and excise tax for separate types of imported goods, which are levied by excise duties from 1 May 2013.

According to the document, specific rate of import duties for cigarettes from tobacco or their replacement increased up to US$5 per 1,000 units. Earlier, the rate was US$3.

At the same time, the Government of Uzbekistan kept current ad valorem (percent) rate at the size of 30%. Rate of excise duty for imported cigarettes was raised from US$18.1 to US$40 per 1,000 cigarettes.
