Uzbekistan Railways to invest 594.7bn soums of own resources to modernization

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- State joint stock railway company “Uzbekistan Temir Yollari” will direct 594.7 billion soums in 2013 to development and modernization of railway transport, which is 48.7% year-on-year.

Birja newspaper said that five projects will be completed in 2013 within the programme on perspective development of industries of economy and territories.

In particular, the company will complete construction of double-line electrified railway line between Jizzakh and Yangiyer (1 stage).

The company also works on modernization and rehabilitation of passenger wagons at Tashkent Plant on Repair of Passenger Wagons. It will help to produce 78 wagons a year. Foundary-Mechanic Plant is also modernized. It is expected that the capacities of the plant will reach 1,200 units of cargo wagons and it will be able to repair 1,500 wagons. It will also be able to produce 950 containers, 26,500 tonnes of foundary products and 600 tonnes of metal construction.

By the end of 2013, the company plans to complete project on organization of high speed passenger transportation at 344 km line of Tashkent-Samarkand railroad (2 stage).

Uzbekistan Temir Yollari will receive three new passenger locomotives in November 2013.
