Uzbekistan Railways announces tender for electrification of Karshi-Termez railroad

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan Temir Yollari (Uzbekistan Railways) state joint stock railway company announced a tender on electrification of railroad Karshi-Termez with the length of 325 km.

The tender was announced on purchase of equipment on turnkey bases, including transformer Sub-stations, catenary systems, section posts, signalling and telecommunication Systems, and SCADA.

The bids are accepted till 24 September 2013. The results will be summed up in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Implementation of the projects will help to cut exploitation expanses and increase speed of passenger and cargo transportation.

Karshi-Termez railroad includes new railway Tashguzar-Kumkurgan, which was constructed at support of Japan. The Government of Japan issued 16.539 billion yens (about US$150 million) to construction of railway Tashguzar-Kumkurgan.

The project cost is US$482 million. Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) issued a loan for 18.067 billion yen (about US$225 million) to implementation of the project “Electrification of Karshi-Termez railroad”.

The project will help to social and economic development of Uzbekistan, Central Asia and Afghanistan.

Uzbekistan has 4,200 km of railroads, of which 1,000 were electrified. Uzbekistan plans to increase the length of electrified railroad to 2,000 km.
