Uzbekistan produces over 64,930 tonnes of edible oil

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Enterprises of oil and fat industry of Uzbekistan produced over 64,930 tonnes of edible oil, 11,2000 tonnes of margarine products and 15,160 tonnes of laundry soap.

UzA reported that currently there are 39 enterprises, including small plants, which produce cotton and sunflower oil, margarine, mayonnaise, laundry and face soap, and other goods.

Largest producers of the industry are Urgench Yog’, Toshkent Yog’-Moy Kombinat, Qarshi Yog’ Extractsiya, Koson Yog Ekstratsiya, Uchkurgan Yog, Farg’ona Yog’-Moy, etc.

All these enterprises are part of the Association of Food Industry Enterprises of Uzbekistan, which was created on 31 October 2011.

The Association of Food Industry Enterprises of Uzbekistan noted that currently the enterprises of industry are focusing on increasing production of oil from sunflower, soyabean, safflower along with cotton. Uzbekistan adopted measures on increasing areas allocated to sunflower and other oil plants.

According to the assessment of specialists, Uzbekistan possesses high potential on production of sunflower. Uzbekistan allocated 40,000 hectares of land for production of sunflower, of which 35,000 hectares produce raw materials for oil enterprises. Uzbekistan allocated 65,000 hectares for production of safflower in 2013. At the same time, it is planned to receive 90,000 tonnes of raw materials for oil enterprises. It is also planned to receive over 25,000 tonnes of sunflower, soyabean and safflower oil.

It is expected that large volume of oil culture crop will be received in Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Samarkand and Tashkent region. In the first quarter of 2013, the enterprises of oil and fat industry signed agreement on supply of raw materials with 1,395 farms.

Large part of sunflower seeds are processed at Tashkent Yog’-Moy Combine, Kogon Yog’ Ekstraktsiya, Uchkurgon Yog, East Oil, OR Goldern oil and others.

Uzbekistan is considering to process untraditional types of raw materials, like seeds of water melon and melon, grape, pumpkin, tomato, apricot, peach, plums and others.

Oil and fat industry of Uzbekistan plans to use investments for US$6.44 million, which will be used to technical re-equipment of enterprises. Implementation of planned projects will allow to increase edible oil production up to 267,640 tonnes.
