Uzbekistan Presented Housing Reform at International Forum in Manila

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — From 26 to 30 May, an international forum organized by the Asian Development Bank is taking place in Manila, Philippines, under the theme “Water Resource Development and Urbanization 2025.”

As part of the forum, a panel discussion titled “From Pilot Projects to Development: Overcoming Housing Deficits with Private Sector Participation” was held. The panel featured Shohrukhbek Ganiev, Chief Specialist of the Department for Coordination of Urbanization Processes, Housing Construction, Renovation Programs, and Mortgage Lending at the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan, alongside Muradjon Farmonov, CEO of the Joint Stock Company “Uzbek Mortgage Refinancing Company.”

During the session, the ongoing housing reform in Uzbekistan was highlighted in detail. Particular emphasis was placed on the fact that, under the initiative of the Head of State, modern market mechanisms for issuing mortgage loans are being implemented, private contracting organizations are actively involved in housing construction, and support for socially vulnerable families is based on principles of targeting and transparency.

It was noted that over the past five years, multi-apartment buildings with a total area of 21.7 million square meters have been constructed, and more than 350,000 mortgage loans have been issued to citizens on the primary housing market, with over 70,000 of these financed through state subsidies.

The discussion concluded with plans to further improve the country’s housing provision system based on market mechanisms.
