Uzbekistan prepares to host the 150th anniversary assembly of the inter-parliamentary union
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 25 February, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan held a meeting of the Organizing Committee to prepare for the 150th Anniversary Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), which will take place in Tashkent from 5 to 9 April 2025. The meeting was chaired by First Deputy Chairman of the Senate Sodik Safoyev.
The decision to hold the assembly in Uzbekistan was made at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. A corresponding presidential decree, signed on 17 January 2025, approved the composition of the Organizing Committee and the event’s action plan.
During the meeting, it was noted that leaders and members of parliaments from many countries, as well as representatives of international organizations, have confirmed their participation.
The central theme of the assembly will be "The Parliamentary Movement for Social Progress and Justice." Discussions will focus on social protection, poverty reduction, and the rule of law, with parliaments sharing their experiences in implementing reforms.
Throughout the week, various thematic events will be organized by IPU committees, addressing human rights, gender equality, scientific and technological development, and youth support.
The meeting participants discussed the key organizational tasks to ensure that the prestigious international forum meets the highest standards.
