Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the process of accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the WTO, active preparations are continuing for the fourth meeting of the WTO Working Group in Geneva.

At the end of 2019, the decisions of the Interdepartmental Commission for Work with the WTO, headed by the Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov, sent the approved Memorandum on the regime of foreign trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan and 12 additional documents affecting various aspects of the foreign trade regime of the Republic to the WTO Secretariat.

In particular, in addition to the Memorandum on the regime of foreign trade, 7 annexes to this document were sent, information on the application of the WTO agreements on customs valuation, technical barriers to trade, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, trade aspects of intellectual property rights, as well as a plan of measures to adapt the national legislation of Uzbekistan to the rules and requirements of the WTO.

Moreover, on 25 February, in order to ensure the efficient holding of the 4th meeting of the Working Group, a number of additional documents were sent to the WTO Secretariat in Geneva, which were previously approved by the Interdepartmental Commission, including answers to questions from WTO member countries to the Memorandum on Regime foreign trade, answers to comments on the elimination of technical barriers, individual chapters of the Memorandum, information on import licensing procedures and other applications.

According to established practice, over the next 4-6 weeks, WTO member states will consider the documents submitted by the Uzbek side. Upon completion of this procedure, a regular meeting of the Working Group on the entry of the Republic of Uzbekistan into the WTO will be held in Geneva.

Until today, the Working Group on the accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the WTO has held three meetings: in July 2002, June 2004. and October 2005
