Uzbekistan Plans to Reduce Prices for 6,000 Medicines in 2026
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan plans to reduce prices for nearly 6,000 types of medicines in 2026, according to Abdullah Azizov, Director of the Pharmaceutical Industry Development Agency, following a presentation to the President held on Tuesday.
According to him, one of the key tools for lowering drug prices was the revision of reference prices on 25 December 2025, which made it possible to cut prices by an average of 40–60 percent.
“Our goal is to further reduce reference prices. To date, wholesale prices for distributors have already been reduced for 2,000 medicines, and from March 1 prices for consumers for these drugs are expected to decrease as well,” Azizov said in an interview with the Uzbekistan 24 television channel.
At the same time, a new regulation has been developed providing for an additional reduction in medicine prices. “Under the new regulation, prices for another 4,000 imported medicines are expected to be reduced starting April 1. As a result, prices will be lowered for approximately 6,000 medicines over the course of the year,” he noted.
Azizov added that the price revision has allowed the country to save around US$70 million, although the measure has affected the interests of distributors.
“Distributors incurred certain losses: medicines were purchased at higher prices with higher taxes and customs duties paid, and after the price reduction there arose a need to refund the excess amounts paid,” Azizov explained. According to him, the President supported the reimbursement of about US$20 million to support entrepreneurs.
Azizov emphasized that price revisions will continue under the new procedure. He recalled that Uzbekistan currently has more than 11,900 prescription medicines, of which 7,600 are imported.
