Uzbekistan Plans to Reduce Car Imports Registered in the Names of Individuals
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has approved a 10 December decree introducing a priority action program aimed at reducing the shadow economy and increasing transparency in imports, customs control, and the circulation of goods.
Among the key measures is the simplification of non-tariff control and import clearance procedures at border customs checkpoints, with the relevant regulation to be prepared by 1 March 2026. The program also envisions reducing the volume of passenger cars imported in the names of private individuals by simplifying procedures for legal entities. A corresponding Cabinet of Ministers resolution is to be adopted by 1 March.
In addition, by 1 February, information exchange between the Customs Committee and the UZIMEI Center is expected to be established to streamline the registration of IMEI codes for mobile devices.
According to the Customs Committee, in January–November 2025 the value of passenger car imports decreased by nearly 14% compared to the same period last year — from US$1.23 billion to US$1.06 billion. At the same time, the number of imported vehicles grew by 4.5%, from 68,500 to 71,700 units.
The measures are aimed at improving trade transparency, promoting lawful imports, and reducing the share of the shadow turnover of goods.
