Uzbekistan Plans to Optimize System of Preferential Lending
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — In 2026, Uzbekistan will begin a review of preferential loans provided by commercial banks, with a gradual reduction of their share in overall credit portfolios over the next five years.
These measures are outlined in a draft Presidential Decree focused on implementing reforms under the priority directions of the “Year of Mahalla Development and Improving Public Wellbeing” and the “Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy.
The optimization of the system involves conducting an audit of preferential loans issued to various sectors of the economy to assess their effectiveness and targeted use.
Following this review, a phased reduction in the proportion of preferential loans in the total credit portfolio will be carried out, helping to balance the financial burden on banks and strengthen discipline in the provision of state-backed benefits.
