Uzbekistan Plans to Increase the Number of Foreign Tourists to 20 Million by 2030

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Under its tourism development objectives through 2030, Uzbekistan aims to increase the sector’s contribution to gross domestic product from the current 3.5% to 7%.

This expansion is expected to generate additional economic growth by attracting investment, improving the quality of tourism services, and creating new jobs.

A significant increase in inbound tourism has been identified as one of the key priorities in the draft updated “Uzbekistan–2030” Strategy. At present, the country is visited by more than 11 million foreign nationals each year, and by 2030 this figure is expected to reach 20 million, including through a higher share of tourists with greater spending power.

Another strategic target is to raise exports of tourism services to more than US$6 billion per year.

Achieving this goal will be supported by a broader range of tourism services, the development of competitive tourism products, and more active promotion of Uzbekistan’s national tourism potential on international markets.

Modernization of infrastructure remains one of the decisive factors for sector growth. Plans include improving transport connectivity between the country’s main tourist cities, increasing the number of domestic flights, and reducing travel times by at least threefold.

At the same time, the number of four- and five-star hotels is set to double, expanding the supply of high-end accommodation and services.

In addition, particular emphasis will be placed on diversifying tourism products and fully unlocking the tourism potential of the regions.

Key priorities also include building a globally recognizable tourism brand for Uzbekistan, introducing modern promotional tools, and strengthening the country’s position as a prestigious destination on the international tourism market.
