Uzbekistan plans to abolish the doubled customs duty on a number of imported goods.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Uzbekistan is considering an initiative to abolish the doubled customs duty rate on a range of imported goods. The corresponding bill, aimed at amending and supplementing the Customs Code, was approved by the deputies of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis in the second reading.

The document proposes the abandonment of the practice of applying the increased duty in cases of importing products from countries that do not have a most-favored-nation status in trade and economic relations with Uzbekistan, as well as when the country of origin of the goods is not specified.

As noted by the deputies, the bill is aimed at addressing existing gaps in legal regulation, creating a more favorable investment climate, and actively attracting foreign investment. Furthermore, its adoption will align national legislation with the norms of the World Trade Organization and will contribute to the expansion of the country's foreign economic relations.

It is expected that the further advancement of the bill will make Uzbekistan's foreign trade system more transparent, predictable, and competitive.
