Uzbekistan Plans Railway Fleet Modernization and Launch of New Routes
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — JSC “Uzbekiston Temir Yo‘llari” is embarking on a large-scale modernization of the country’s railway fleet.
These measures are outlined in the draft Presidential Decree on the State Program for implementing reforms under the priorities of the Year of “Mahalla Development and Improvement of Public Wellbeing” and the strategy “Uzbekistan – 2030.”
The company plans to produce 1,000 new freight wagons to renew the cargo fleet and 50 passenger cars to modernize the passenger segment.
To update the locomotive fleet, the plan includes the procurement of 25 diesel and 25 hybrid shunting locomotives.
In addition to fleet renewal, the project envisages the launch of new passenger routes. Specifically, a high-speed electric train will be introduced on the Tashkent — Khiva route, and modern electric train service will be organized on the Tashkent — Bekabad route.
The implementation of these measures aims to increase railway capacity, reduce travel time for passengers, and enhance the efficiency of freight transportation in support of the country’s economic development.
