Uzbekistan passed information on Akilov to Sweden – Uzbek FM

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan passed over information on Rakhmat Akilov, the man accused of ramming a truck into a crowd of people in Stockholm on 7 April, to Sweden via another Western state, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Abdulaziz Kamilov said today.

Uzbek Minister said that Rakhmat Akilov left from Samarkand to Sweden in 2014 and worked in construction sites.

During his time in Sweden, Akilov was recruited by Islamic State. With help of messengers, he spread various extremist content among relatives, friends and citizens of Uzbekistan, Kamilov said.

Abdulaziz Kamilov noted that the Uzbek law enforcement bodies launched investigation against Rakhat Akilov. He added that Uzbek side hand over information about Akilov to Sweden through another Western nation.
