Uzbekistan Opens Tourism Office in Beijing
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 1 September 2025, a ceremonial opening of the Uzbekistan Tourism Office took place in Beijing, the capital of the People’s Republic of China.
The event was held within the framework of a high-level official visit and served as another vivid demonstration of the strengthening friendly relations, mutual trust, and strategic partnership between the two countries.
The ceremony was attended by Umid Shadiev, Chairman of the Tourism Committee of Uzbekistan; Chi Lu, Executive Director of the Beijing Association of Foreign and Cultural Trade of the Federation of Industry and Commerce of China; representatives of leading Chinese tour operators; and other official guests.
Speakers emphasized that the opening of the Tourism Office in Beijing will create new opportunities to expand tourism ties between Uzbekistan and China, help major Chinese tour operators enter the Uzbek market, and serve as a platform for implementing joint projects and attracting investment in the tourism sector.
It was noted that, thanks to initiatives by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan and President Xi Jinping of China, bilateral cooperation in tourism has shown dynamic growth in recent years. Key steps include the introduction of a 30-day visa-free regime from 1 June 2025 and the establishment of more than 50 regular weekly flights between the two countries, with plans to increase the number to 100.
An additional boost to cooperation came with the announcement of 2025 as the “Year of Uzbekistan Tourism in China.” During the year, Uzbek delegations held promotional events and roadshows in nine major Chinese cities, participated in tourism exhibitions, and plan further promotional activities in other regions of the country by the end of the year.
Uzbekistan has set an ambitious goal to increase the number of tourists from China to 3 million by 2030.
The opening of the Tourism Office in Beijing is seen as a key step toward achieving this objective.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, Uzbek representatives invited Chinese guests to visit the country, emphasizing that Uzbekistan remains an open, hospitable, and comfortable destination for tourists from China.
