Uzbekistan, Oman to boost trade-economic ties

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The third session of the intergovernmental commission on trade-economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and Oman was held in Tashkent on 15 September 2015.

The delegation of Oman led by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Sultanate of Oman and Co-chairman of the Uzbek-Omani Intergovernmental Commission on Trade and Economic Cooperation Badr bin Hamad al-Busaidi arrived in Tashkent to attend the session of the commission.

Representative of ministries and department of Uzbekistan and Oman, responsible for foreign economic relations, trade, industry and transport and other spheres attended the event.

At the session, the sides considered actual issues of bilateral cooperation, including current state and perspectives of trade-economic relations, further expansion of legal-agreement framework, development of cooperation in investment, transport and communication, etc.

Trade-economic and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and Oman is governed by the Agreement on Trade and Economic Cooperation dated 5 October 2009, and an agreement on encouragement and mutual protection of investments on 30 March 2009.

Currently, Uzbekistan and Oman held two sessions of intergovernmental commissions. Last session was held in Muscat on 23 September 2014.

The volume of mutual trade between the two countries in 2014 made up US$230,700 and US$23,900 in January - June 2015.

Currently, three joint ventures with participation of Omani capital are operating in Uzbekistan.
