Uzbekistan may introduce an annual fee for car owners

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan may introduce an annual fee for car owners. This is envisaged by the draft resolution of the Government of Uzbekistan.

The amount of the levy for car ownership was not disclosed. According to the document, the amount of the fee will be set by the local Kengashes deputies. The amount of the fee will be determined by the engine power of the car and is accumulated in local budgets.

The fee will not be levied from budgetary organizations financed from the state budget of the Republic of Uzbekistan and recipients of budgetary funds, as well as from rail, sea, river and air transport and specially equipped vehicles for disabled people.

The document notes that car owners will have to pay an annual fee within a month after receiving the notification. Failure to pay the fee will incur a penalty.

It is also proposed to introduce a special tax for sold gasoline, diesel fuel, liquefied and compressed gas to end users.

According to the document, the amount of this fee cannot exceed 25 soums per unit of fuel. The levy will be collected when fuel is sold by petrol and gas stations.

The document notes that the funds will be directed to the development of regional roads.

On 29 December 2019, the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree "On measures to deeply reform the road system of the Republic of Uzbekistan." The decree stipulates the introduction of two types of fees for vehicle owners.
