Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- An online meeting was held between representatives of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports with Secretary General and founder of the World Toilet Organization (WTO) in Singapore Jack Lim and international project manager Sarika Saluja.
World Toilet Organization was established on 17 November 2001 in Singapore, which works in areas such as the development of hygiene and sanitation standards around the world, the requirements for latrines, the introduction of new technologies and the study of their impact on public health and the environment.
In many countries, the formation of national projects, the fight against neglect of the topic of latrines in society and the promotion of national programs abroad are among the main tasks of this prestigious organization.
In 2013, at the 67th session of the UN General Assembly, these efforts were taken into account and 17 November was declared the birthday of the "World Toilet Organization", that is, World Toilet Day. The organization works with the World Bank, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, World Health Organization, UNICEF, Clinton Global Initiative and USAID.
In connection with the increase in the efficiency of the work carried out in the field of sanitation and hygiene and familiarization with the state of projects implemented in Uzbekistan to date, the specialists of the Ministry made a presentation. Then Secretary General Jack Lim detailed the creation of the national government program Toilet Revolution, ahead of the development of foreign tourism in China and India. Thanks to the work carried out in Uzbekistan over the recent period, much attention is paid to this area, first of all, for local residents, and then, for foreign tourists, the formation of a positive image of the country.
In addition to food, recreation and shopping, local and foreign tourists enjoy sanitary facilities and restrooms. Their quality, cleanliness and convenient location determine the level of service.
Information was also provided about the World Toilet Summit and Expo, which has been held since 2019. This event was last held in 2019 in São Paulo Brazil and several countries are vying to host the event in 2021.
In particular, the head of the department of the Ministry for improving the sanitary and hygienic state of tourist infrastructure and the organization of tourist information centers M. Khayitova said that in Uzbekistan, at the state and government levels, much attention is paid to improving the state of public sanitary and hygienic facilities and the construction of new ones, a number of works are being carried out in this direction, as well as preferences and conveniences are created for business entities who wish to conduct their activities in this area.
It was noted that the ministry is developing another draft government decree to further strengthen work to create favorable sanitary and hygienic conditions for local residents and tourists, as a result of which all tourist facilities in the country should be fully equipped with modern sanitary equipment by the end of 2022.
Following the meeting, the leading experts of this organization were invited by the responsible leaders of the organization to Uzbekistan to exchange views regarding this area and to discuss issues on holding an international summit of this organization in 2021.
