Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 10 December 2020, a memorandum of understanding was signed between the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan (NCHR) and the Malaysian National Human Rights Commission.
The signing took place as part of a series of international events "New Uzbekistan and Human Rights" dedicated to the International Human Rights Day.
The memorandum was signed by the NCHR within the framework of the implementation of the National Human Rights Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, approved by the President of the country. This important step is based on the goal of developing cooperation with international and regional structures in the field of human rights protection, national human rights institutions of foreign countries.
The event was attended by First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis, Director of the National Center for Human Rights Akmal Saidov, Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission of Malaysia Tan Shri Osman bin Hashim, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Malaysia Ravshan Usmanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Malaysia in the Republic of Uzbekistan Hendi Assan.
The signing ceremony was also attended by representatives of ministries and departments, civil society institutions and international organizations in Uzbekistan, the diplomatic corps.
The Memorandum stipulates mutually beneficial cooperation in the field of protection of human rights and freedoms. In this sense, this document is aimed at promoting compliance with international obligations under international treaties in the field of human rights, exchange of information and literature, as well as mutual experience in protecting the rights and fundamental freedoms of citizens.
One of the main directions of the memorandum is the organization of joint practical and research work, information and educational activities, scientific conferences, seminars, trainings to improve mechanisms for protecting human rights at the local, national and international levels.
